An inaugural flight by the airline company LOT Polish Airlines on a flight route Warsaw – Sarajevo – Warsaw was welcomed with an inaugural ceremony held today at Sarajevo International Airport. The Management Board of Sarajevo International Airport, a member of the Board of LOT Polish Airlines Katarzyna Piskorz, a representative of the Tourism Association of Sarajevo Canton Mr. Faruk Čaluk, the Secretary of State - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Bosnia and Herzegovina Jaroslaw Lindenberg, the USAID B&H Economic Development Officer Karl Wurster and Mr. Josip Brkić, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of B&H attended the ceremony.
On the occasion of addressing the media, the importance and the role of this flight route in increasing touristic demand for Bosnia and Herzegovina were emphasized and a number of marketing and sales activities for the purpose of increasing the bookings from Poland were presented as well as the plans for seizing the opportunities which the Airport Warsaw has to offer in relation to creating additional demands and the bookings from other key markets for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Launching of this route is the outcome of negotiations carried out between LOT Polish Airlines and PC Sarajevo International Airport which were supported by the USAID Turizam Project and all in the aim of expanding the country's air connectivity with the purpose of stimulating the economic growth through tourism.
''Introducing a direct flight connection between Warsaw and Sarajevo by the airline company LOT is another confirmation of Poland’s booming activity in the region of the Western Balkans. I hope this will not just facilitate the arrival of the Polish pilgrims to Medjugorje, but that it shall also become an accelerator for more active business, political and cultural cooperation between Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina,'' said the State Secretary - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.
''With this flight which lasts less than two hours, we are glad that the Polish people will have the opportunity to experience a unique charm of Sarajevo and to see important historical sites such as the Tunnel of Life but also to enjoy in the relaxed atmosphere and excellent Balkan cuisine.
