Sarajevo International Airport continues establishing records in 2014
After last year's record of 665.638 transported passengers, Sarajevo International Airport has continued setting records in 2014, too.In first nine months of the current year the Airport processed 555.145 passengers, what makes 7% increase in comparison with the same period in 2013. The increase of 10% is also recorded in respect of air traffic operations, while the total of civil cargo has increaed for 15% if compared to the same period last year.
The air traffic increase reflected on the Airport's financial results, so that the profit for the first half of the current year equals 2.673.412,14 KM, what is 71% more than in the previous year.
Favourable balance is a result of long-standing dedication of both the Management and all the employees whose professional attitude was recognized by numerous leading airlines to which this company provides its services. Due to the mutually satisfactory cooperation Sarajevo has established excellent connections withing Europe and the world.
Introduction of new air services at affordable prices, including quality of rendered services, is one of the main golas of the Company. In line with that, in December this year a low-cost airline FlyDubai will start a new air service Dubai – Sarajevo – Dubai. Negotiations with a few other Carriers are in progres and the public will be informed in due about possible new connections to attractive destinations.
„Since the start of new air services will result in increased air traffic, our business plans for the following period have included investments in infrastructure, i.e. reconstruction of Terminal B, increased level of security of passengers, aircraft, buildings, baggage and cargo. The plans have also included purchase of sophisticated airport equipment, as well as training of employees as it has been a practice of this Airport for years“, said director of Sarajevo International Airport, Ivan Veličan.
In addition to excellent business results being recorded for years, Sarajevo International Airport pays a great attention to social responsibility through a constant care of the local community, responsible environmental behaviour, and donations and sponsorhips, either for humanitarian purposes or for sports and cultural events.
A special contribution Sarajevo International Airport was recorded during the flood that affected BiH in May this year. Namely, Sarajevo International Airport for that purpose has processed 214.744 kg of cargo that was transported by humanitarian cargo charter planes that the Airport ground handled free of charge.
Director Veličan also comments the cooperation with the Government of FBiH, „Goos business results are certainly caused by our successful cooperation with the Government of FBiH. I would emphasize a full support of the Federal Prime Minister, Nermin Nikšić, as well as of the relevant Minister of Transport and Communications. From the very beginning we have been aware that progress and positive results can be achieved only if working together. The resulst so far are an additional encouragement to keep making efforts to futher imrpove quality and overall busines of the Company. Consequently, we expect to record 700.000 passengers by the end of the year, while for the next year we will hopefully achieve an ambitious goal of 800.000 passengers“. said Veličan.
