On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Sarajevo International Airport hosted a ceremonial welcome for the first charter flight on the Cairo–Sarajevo route, marking the first-ever direct air connection between the capitals of Egypt and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The flight was operated by Petroleum Air Services, in cooperation with the travel agency Tishoury Tours and the incoming agency MTS from Montenegro. The airport’s friendly staff, with the support of the local company Lasta, presented symbolic welcome gifts to the first passengers arriving from Cairo.
Passengers from Cairo were greeted by H.E. Mr. Sabit Subašić, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Egypt, along with representatives of Sarajevo International Airport led by the Executive Director for Development, Mr. Slobodan Kadijević.
Ambassador Subašić emphasized that strengthening tourism cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Egypt is one of the priorities, a topic discussed last year between BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
“The results of promoting Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Egyptian market are already visible – our country is increasingly present in the media and on social networks as a desirable destination. Today’s flight is the first-ever direct service from Cairo to Sarajevo and a significant sign of positive progress in our relations. In addition to tourism, it opens new opportunities for economic, cultural, and educational ties between our countries,” said Subašić.
H.E. Mr. Walid Haggag, Ambassador of Egypt to Bosnia and Herzegovina, welcomed the introduction of the charter service, stressing its importance for promoting Bosnia and Herzegovina and increasing interest among BiH citizens in visiting Egypt.
Sarajevo Airport’s Executive Director, Mr. Kadijević, highlighted the significance of this event for international connectivity and tourism development:
“We are proud that Sarajevo International Airport is the host of the first flight from Cairo and grateful for the trust shown by our partners from Egypt. This flight represents an important step forward in expanding our air network while opening new opportunities for travelers in both directions.”
Flights on this route are planned as seasonal charters during August: August 13, 21, and 28. According to information from MTS agency, in 2026 there are plans for two weekly charter flights between Cairo and Sarajevo from May to October.
