Today's press conference held in the Information Center of the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board at Sarajevo International Airport marked the ceremonial opening of a new airline on the route Gothenburg - Sarajevo by the leading European low-cost airline Ryanair.
The Boeing 738 landed on the runway of the Sarajevo airport at 08:20 local time, and was greeted with a traditional water salute, which marked the start of flights between Gothenburg and Sarajevo.
At the press conference, the president of the KS Tourist Board, Mr. Haris Fazlagić and the Director of the Airport Services Sector at Sarajevo International Airport, Mrs. Vedrana Vikić Musić.
Fazlagić pointed out that the opening of this line is the result of a public call for subsidizing air traffic, implemented in cooperation between the Tourist Board, Sarajevo International Airport and the Government of KS. "We at the KS Tourist Association have big plans and expectations for the upcoming summer season, and the possibility of a larger number of flights will certainly help in achieving our goals," he said.
"The first flight from Gothenburg was successfully implemented, and in the coming days, as part of the summer flight schedule, we expect the start of air operations to the other five attractive European destinations.
We put a lot of effort into implementing the possibility of subsidizing airlines in order to expand the network of destinations from Sarajevo, and that effort paid off," Vikić Musić said.
In the coming days, Ryanair flights to London, Brussels, Memmingen, Milan and Thessaloniki will begin from Sarajevo International Airport, which will provide passengers with additional opportunities for travel and connections with attractive European destinations.
