Sarajevo International Airport, as an environmentally conscious company, continues to carry out activities in the direction of sustainable development.
In accordance with the ACA (Airport Carbon Accreditation) certificate - level 1 Mapping, our commitment is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, until reaching a level where its emissions will be reduced to an absolute minimum. One of the planned measures is the electrification of rolling stock and machinery, and in connection with this, the procurement of electric vehicles was carried out, with which we secured the rental of 10 VW ID.3 vehicles in the PRO version with fast chargers of 11 kw through a three-year contract.
We currently own electric vehicles that make up 26% of the total number of vehicles that are used both on the air side of the airport and in public transport. The decision to purchase electric vehicles for the Sarajevo airport represents an important step towards sustainable mobility with the ultimate goal - the electrification of all vehicles. In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, we intend to encourage other organizations and institutions to consider switching to electric vehicles and contribute to reducing the negative impact on the environment.
It is interesting that one of the conditions of the tender was that the supplier undertakes to "return" 30% of the rental value to the airport through a binding agreement on the lease of advertising space, during the lease period. As part of this business cooperation, a contract for the lease of advertising space was also signed, which in relation to the contracted value, is one of the most significant contracts when it comes to the service of selling the marketing space of Sarajevo Airport. Considering that by opening a new part of the Terminal, we opened a large part of new places for advertising, this was a great opportunity to enrich the new space with content that promotes sustainable development.
At the same time, we would like to emphasize our plan for switching to renewable energy sources for heating and electricity. Accordingly, we are working on the implementation of a solar power plant for which we received urban planning approval and which will provide clean energy for the needs of Sarajevo International Airport.
In addition to this project, the installation of water/water heat pumps is planned for the air conditioning of buildings.
Sarajevo Airport's efforts in the field of sustainability not only reduce the negative impact on the environment, but also represent a good example for the industry in BiH and the region.
The decision to switch to electric vehicles and renewable energy sources confirms our commitment to creating a sustainable future for aviation.
