Participants of GARD workshop visited Sarajevo International Airport

Participants of the workshop called “Get Airports Ready for Disaster – GARD“, organized by Deutsche Post DHL group and UN Development Program (UNDP), being held in Sarajevo till September 28, today visited Sarajevo International Airport. Participants and trainers visited all SIA’s sectors as well as other agencies working at SIA and talked to employees trying to assess the existing level of readiness for disaster at Sarajevo International Airport.
Employees of Sarajevo International Airport informed the workshop participants about numerous procedures regarding response in case of emergency and thus confirmed their readiness to deal with emergency situations, that has regularly been tested in various exercises.
Sarajevo International Airport is strategically very important in case of a natural disaster, and for that reason it is essential to have a trained team and a plan adjusted for the action in case of a sudden increase of air traffic and rush of aid and manpower which usually happens after a disaster.
Besides representatives of Sarajevo International Airport, participants also include representatives of BiH Ministry of security, Ministry of communications and traffic, army and other administrative bodies, as well as experts in the filed of humanitarian activities.
