Numerous Works at the Sarajevo International Airport
Reconstruction has begun of one more portion of the airplane parking platform at the Sarajevo International Airport. This is a phased reconstruction of the platform which started as early as in 2014 and will allow for minimum 20 years of future exploitation. The first phase was successfully finished in 2014, when some 1,700 sqm of the platform were renovated. The second phase was finished last year, when some 3,500 sqm of the parking platform was replaced with new layers and the finishing concrete coating.
The constructions works are going on 24/7 this time too, while the expert services of the Sarajevo Airport have undertaken a number of organizational and technical measures in order to prevent the works from affecting the security and regular schedule of airline traffic. The works should be finished by mid-next month, and this time some 3,000 sqm of the existing parking platform will be renovated, that is, replaced with new layers and completed with a 30 cm thick concrete coating, in line with the international ICAO regulations.
The reconstruction works are being carried out due to problems in exploitation of a part of the platform, specifically due to problems with ruts caused by airplane wheels on parking positions, due to which it was very frequently necessary to replace the asphalting on these sections of the platform.
In addition to the works on reconstruction of the parking platform, the completion of works on the cooling chamber is also expected soon. It will significantly facilitate the export of non-durable goods. The capacity of the cooling chamber is 80 tons, or 64 Euro-pallets, and its area size is 230 sqm. It will be multi-functional, meaning that the chamber space will ensure the temperature regime of 0 to 5 degrees for transport and storage of fragile commodities, and it will also feature the so-called environmental temperature mode ranging from 15 to 25; it can also be used as a storage house.
In addition to all of these, there are also works being carried out on the reconstruction of the network for drainage of wastewaters and precipitation waters. The existing network is outdated and its capacities and profiles cannot meet all of the connected and newly planned facilities, and therefore this reconstruction was initiated. The length of the sewer network is some 820 m, and the length of the precipitation water drainage line is some 550 m.
All of these works will significantly enhance the quality and level of services offered by the Sarajevo International Airport to its business partners and clients.
